A Cohort Study Of Racing Performance In Japanese Thoroughbred Racehorses Using Genome Information On ECA18: Previous studies indicated that genotype at the myostatin gene in Thoroughbred horses may be predictive of best racing distance aptitude and lifetime earnings in the Japanese horse. While no other SNP performed better than g.66493737C>T in the prediction of best race distance, the frequency of short and middle-distance races in the Japanese Pattern of Racing may introduce a bias for the sprint-type C-allele in lifetime earnings.
