PGC-1α Encoded By The PPARGC1A Gene Regulates Oxidative Energy Metabolism In Equine Skeletal Muscle During Exercise

PGC-1α Encoded By The PPARGC1A Gene Regulates Oxidative Energy Metabolism In Equine Skeletal Muscle During Exercise: Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-y coactivator 1α (PGC-1α) is a critical control factor in the adaptation of skeletal muscle to exercise, and to understand this role, muscle biopsies were taken from horses following a standardised exercise test on a treadmill. Significant differences in gene expression were found following exercise that highlights the role of PGC-1α in potentially increasing oxidative capacity and allowing a greater resistance to fatigue.
