‘Maintaining the diverse original bloodlines is critical to the long-term survival of the Irish Sport Horse….. Traditional bloodlines harbor genetics that breeders have shaped for many centuries and they are there for a reason.’
Launched at last night’s Traditional Irish Horse Association (TIHA) AGM, Professor Emmeline Hill sat down with William Micklem to discuss the genetic evolution of the Irish Sport Horse. The TIHA aim is to conserve and develop traditional bloodlines within Irish sport horse breeding. During their conversation they discuss the advantages of genetic diversity within the equine population, the impact of early life husbandry on individuals’ development and the research that is ongoing by Prof. Hill’s team that will offer major advances to the future of sport horse breeding.
